a lazy color job, because lazy color jobs are what I do.
Struggled with this one a bit; the OCs' colors are pretty saturated and it's hard to get saturated color to play nicely with charcoal. Besides, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres is my home boy.
Plus, I originally thought I needed a green background with a blue and brown pony. So I did that and it all matched, but the whole picture took on this cool tone. But it's a tender scene, so I dunno, color-theme-wise it made it look like she was caring for him while he was sick or something? So--poor color theory education to the rescue--I tweaked all the hues, going ever so lightly toward the red part of the spectrum to warm it up. The background suddenly went yellow. And now her hair is slightly greenish. So it's still got a cool tone to it instead of a warm. But I kinda like it this way.
In hindsight, I probably should have gone for the purple on the opposite side of the color wheel from my original green. Just as complementary to the blues and browns while being warmer. I think. I dunno, I suck at color theory.
Charcoals on sketch paper set to a multiply layer over lazy Paint Tool SAI colors.
